This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.
While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future away from worry.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The swine, donated by a first responder, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six-seven” – originating from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently declared “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the holiday season,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.
“It embodies the spirit of Miami: vibrant, varied, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Each year, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
