As he approaches his six-year milestone as manager, Mikel Arteta has stated plainly that his longevity in North London is directly connected to achieving success.

The Journey So Far: From Appointment to Present

The Spanish coach was appointed on December 20th, 2019 and managed to steer the team to an cup win not long after. However, that initial silverware is still his only top-tier trophy after taking over from Unai Emery.

“I can,” he stated upon being asked about staying beyond 2027. “But it’s about today. And many things must occur in the near future as well to warrant that continuation.”

He will mark the anniversary with a match versus Everton, the identical team Arsenal met the day after his appointment was announced.

The Current Landscape

As second-placed Manchester City taking on West Ham earlier in the day, Arsenal risk losing first place in the Premier League prior to their fixture. This potential shift even with Arteta overseeing a squad that has endured in excess of one hundred injury setbacks since the start of last season.

The team approaches the upcoming game managing an additional absence. Defender Ben White has been ruled out with a hamstring injury that is likely to keep him out for several weeks.

Confidence in the Path

Even with the injury crisis and the high-stakes environment, Arteta feels the club's “focus and dialogue” are profoundly distinct from when he began his reign.

He pointed to the record-breaking achievements as evidence of progress. “Examine the performances, all the records that we... were breaking... We still have yet to do that [win trophies]. But that shows the level we are at.”

In closing, the manager stated, “This is a standard that the Premier League has not seen before in the past. And our ambition is to achieve more lofty ambitions. And if we do that, I think we are on the right path to winning.”
