Pep Guardiola has admitted feeling "shame" after a confrontation with a TV crew member in the wake of Manchester City's loss away to the Magpies this past weekend.

When the match concluded, a visibly upset Guardiola stepped onto the field and engaged in intense talks with match official Sam Barrott and Newcastle’s Bruno Guimarães, while also handling the broadcast crew's equipment.

"I apologised," the manager remarked. "I'm humiliated, regretful, looking back. I don’t like it. I apologised after one second to the operator. I am who I am. With a thousand matches under my belt I’m not a perfect person, errors happen."

"What is for sure, I defend any team and my club, that’s for sure. Why I support my squad is no doubt – because from my experience to win the Premier League we have to do 100 points, 98 points, or we fall short."

City's Position and Guardiola's Assessment

City are third and are seven behind the Gunners after what was their fourth league defeat this campaign. "Four defeats in twelve matches means we must do better," he conceded. "Mathematically, it’s possible still achieve all."

The manager was asked about a potential quadruple was a realistic aim, he responded: "As a seasoned reporter, did you hear my talk about the quadruple last winter when we won the quadruple? Never."

Exchange with Bruno

On the subject of his talk with Guimarães, Guardiola said: "We have known Bruno for many years and every time after the game, home or away, we converse. We often meet and we get along well. I enjoy it. I'm passionate, I like discussing and gesticulate."

He wouldn't mind should a rival coach addressed his squad right after the final whistle. "Not if it's respectful like I always have done, it's fine," he noted, before referencing Barrott. "He was part of it throughout the match, constantly. My God, very much so."

Debatable Calls

The team felt aggrieved that the officials did not award City a penalty on a Schär tackle on Phil Foden, and doubted if Guimarães was offside when Harvey Barnes scored Newcastle’s 70th-minute winner. Pictures published later show he was level.

Next Big Match

He will manage of his 100th Champions League game against Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday. "It’s quite good, showing we compete we have been there," he commented.

City have 10 points from four matches of the league phase, and Leverkusen hold five.
